Open Your Eyes

There are times when life is far from fine,

and everyone is more than blind.

When hopes and dreams are ripped apart,

and words spoken are of hate and not from heart.

Times when people choose to look the other way

rather then face the pain if they would stay.

They run from that which causes fear

and try to hide from that which is unclear.

Because of this, we are known as cowards,

afraid to face the greater powers,

Afraid to go beyond our sences,

and unwilling to escape the walls that fence us.

No, instead we believe that all is fine.

We are oblivious to every sign.

We believe that nothing is wrong,

and that our lives are so very long.

We pretend to be in control,

yet you would be a fool to say that life is not unpredictable.

And we pretend to understand,

but what we do not know, we fake the hand.

We must open our eyes and look around.

We must pick ourselves up off the ground.

A new day will dawn upon the land,

and when it does, we must reach out a helping hand.

Lend a hand to those in need,

for all friendships start from a single seed.
